ABOUT ME

Welcome, to your new Sunday self-care read!

Owls and Axes is my little patch of internet, dedicated to sharing with you tips, techniques, insights, and practices on creating a sustainable self-care practice that takes your days from surviving to thriving!

We aren’t just talking hug a tree, eco-friendly “sustainable” self-care…

We’re digging deep into the why’s, the how’s, and the what’s, of the “if’s” and “when’s” that stop us from climbing out of our stuffy, suppressive plant-pots and flourishing into our fullest expression!

“You’re basically just a house-plant with more complicated emotions…”

It makes my heard hurt thinking back on the over-complicated explanations and noise that surrounded self-care when I first started looking into it-

You might have gotten an earful too…

The ever constant debate of whether you turn into a self-absorbed a-hole daring to prioritise yourself-

The toxic impositions of an unhealthy society, the guilt, the shaming- maybe even feeling left out as self-care becomes defined by what’s on top of the wellness charts…

And they’ve left behind a messy trail feeling priced out of and helpless toward helping themselves.

I got spat out the other side from all this, thinking that if I didn’t have the luxury of time, money, or even self-esteem in my life, then “self-care” was a wellness method that “just wasn’t for me…”

Oh how wrong I was…

What’s my story?

You can call me Q.

It’s not my actual name. My real one is so laden with trauma reminders it’s almost funny…

Traumas that saw me battling for almost twenty years with chronic depression and anxiety that turned my sense of self into a toxic wasteland-

That was leaking out and poisoning everything it touched…

Blundering through that thick depressive smog and jumping at shadows in the beginning to nurture these dying, decaying parts of myself wasn’t easy- and not every day could I make it through either…

Unable to seek help (and clueless how to help myself), I took to the books; studying everything I could get my hands on to do with Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, and Holistic Health– slowly piecing together the jigsaw of how I worked…

Unable to talk, I spoke to the pages of journals instead to figure out what I needed and what kept me wilting…

Unable to grow in my stuffy city apartment plant-pot, I packed up my life and moved in with nature on a mountainside- who wasted no time on kicking my ass into shape…

Combined, they’ve helped me take self-care back to basics and are turning that wasteland into an oasis!

And its fruits, I want to share with you to grow your own abundant self-care garden!

This isn’t hug a tree singing Kumbaya self-care…

This is Mamma Nature’s Boot Camp
